On Saturday Gary had a runny nose and later that night had a fever. I figured he was coming down with a cold and since he had RSV earlier this year I figured I had better get him into the Doctor today. (Monday) I decided to take Alex with me because she has had this cough for about a week and seemed to get worse on Saturday night and Sunday.
We get to the Doctor and Gary was eating so he saw Alex first. He was not happy about what he heard. Alex was wheezing really bad and her pulse-ox level was 92. It is supposed to be 99 or 100. Well they gave her an nebulizer treatment and her pulse-ox didn't change. That's not good. They waited a few minutes and gave her another treatment. These take 10-15 minutes each time. They did her pule-ox again and it was still 92. The Doc was a little concerned at this point and gave her an oral steroid to help open her lungs. Finally after 45 min they got her up to 95. An acceptable level to let us leave the office. Alex has now officially been diagnosed with Asthma.
During the treatments the looked at Gary who had finished eating. He does not have RSV thank goodness, but he does have another ear infection. His fourth one! He is congested and and needs to use the nebulizer and an inhaled steroid.
So Alex is on Prednisone for 5 days along with nebulizer treatments. Then after the 5 days she changes to an inhaled steroid through an inhaler. Gary is on Amoxicillin for his ear and then gets two different medications through the nebuilzer, a steroid twice a day and albuterol as needed.
The next few days are going to be full of fun!
